Up Rainbow Creek Ponds & Problems Classroom Education Water Quality Program Resources Energy Conservation

Public education and outreach efforts are part of Mission RCD's main goals.  We are proud to help residents of southern California learn about a wide variety of issues, ranging from invasive aquatic animals to stormwater pollution prevention.

Invasive aquatic animals are causing many problems for native aquatic animals.  Please visit our Ponds and Problems page to learn about Mission RCD and its partnering agencies' efforts to help solve this problem.  Also, on this page you will find a brochure about proper pond construction and  pond management.

Rainbow Creek, at the San Diego and Riverside Counties boundary, is a hot topic in water quality.  A recently established Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) has been established and will effect the residents in the Rainbow Creek watershed.  Please visit our Rainbow Creek page to learn about the TMDL, and best management practices for nurseries and agricultural entities, horse and small animal owners, and septic systems.

Classroom presentations for elementary schoolchildren are available and FREE!  These presentations help children (and their parents!) identify, reduce, and prevent stormwater pollution.  Please visit our Classroom Education page for more information.

Water quality monitoring has also been used by Mission RCD as an educational modem for residents in southern California.  The citizen water quality monitoring program (Home2Ocean Program) was a volunteer-based and monitored the water quality of 2 creeks and the Santa Margarita River for a 14 month period.  Please visit our Water Quality Program page for photos and the final data report.

Energy conservation is becoming more and more important for saving money and the environment.  Check back soon to view the Energy Conservation page to learn about how you can conserve energy by following a few simple tips at home!

For more detailed information regarding the San Luis Rey and Santa Margarita River and how to keep our creeks and rivers clean, please visit our Resources page!
