Mission RCD is proud to present the Storm Water Pollution Education Program.  A Mission RCD representative will give FREE classroom presentations for Kindergarten through 8th grade classes.

Polluted stormwater enters our surface water and ground water and harms wildlife, jeopardizes the use of our rivers and lakes for recreation and may eventually contaminate the water we drink.  Students will learn how to protect and keep our local waterways clean.

Students will learn:

  • The definition of a watershed,

  • The definition of stormwater,

  • How water becomes polluted,

  • About point and non-point source pollution,

  • How to keep our waterways clean!

Teachers can choose from three presentations:

1. Kindergarten—3rd Grade

The story of Fancy Fin the Fish: Fancy Fin goes on an adventure to explore other parts of the Santa Margarita River.  Students read the story and participate in a hands-on activity to learn about water pollution problems that Fancy Fin encounters on her trip and help her find solutions to the problems.

2. 3rd—4th Grade

Fancy Fin the Fish and Phinnious J. Green the Pacific tree frog: Fancy Fin and Phinnious study the affects of polluted stormwater.  As students read the story and participate in a hands-on activity they learn about point and nonpoint source pollution and how to eliminate this type of water pollution.

3. 4th—8th Grade

Keep your local waterways clean: Students are introduced to the causes of water pollution by using an interactive model and fun science activities.  They see first-hand, the affects of land use practices on plants, animals and people.
