The ground water levels in the valley floor of Rainbow can be extremely high during the rain season and will remain high throughout most of the year.  The geology of the valley floor is made up layer of rock not far below the ground's surface, which keeps the ground water levels high.

This can pose a huge problem for septic systems, as the drainfield can be sitting in the ground water during times of heavy rain.

The County of San Diego has several monitoring wells that were used to measure the ground water levels throughout Rainbow.  One well remains active and is located near the Rainbow Valley Park on 5th street.  The reported levels for ground water can be seen by clicking HERE.  A map of the monitoring well locations can be seen by clicking HERE.

Please check this website during the rain season for any alerts of excessively high ground water levels in the valley floor of Rainbow.
